Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

US Debt Clock

In the midst of a fiery floor debate over contempt proceedings for Attorney General Eric Holder, House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) quietly dropped a bombshell letter into the Congressional Record.

The ruling relied on a technical explanation of how the individual mandate could be categorized. Roberts, in the opinion, said the mandate could not be upheld under the Constitution's Commerce Clause. However, it could be upheld under the government's power to tax.

Justice Department Says It Won't Prosecute Attorney General Holder for Contempt
The contempt vote technically opened the door for the House to call on the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia to bring the case before a grand jury. But because U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen works for Holder and because President Obama has already asserted executive privilege over the documents in question, some expected Holder's Justice Department to balk.

Obama to Soldiers: Pay Up
The Obama administration on Friday threatened to veto a defense appropriations bill in part because it does not include higher health care fees for members of the military. Obama’s most recent budget proposal includes billions of dollars in higher fees for members of TRICARE, the military health care system, and is part of the administration’s plan to cut nearly $500 billion from the Pentagon’s budget.

ObamaCare: Seven New Taxes on Citizens Earning Less Than $250,000
The first, and best known, of these seven taxes that will hit all Americans as a result of Obamacare is the Individual Mandate Tax (no longer concealed as a penalty). This provision will require a couple to pay the higher of a base tax of $1,360 per year, or 2.5% of adjusted growth income starting with lower base tax and rising to this level by 2016. Individuals will see a base tax of $695 and families a base tax of $2,085 per year by 2016.

Teacher's Union Blocks Bill That Makes Firing Child Molesters Easier
The defeat Wednesday of a proposed law that would have made it easier for school districts to fire teachers in cases of sexual and other egregious misconduct has shone a spotlight on the strong sway of the California Teachers Association, widely considered the state's most politically influential labor union with more than 325,000 members.

Border Patrol union blasts Homeland Security instructions to 'run away' and 'hide' from gunmen
“If we are cornered by such a shooter we are to (only as a last resort) become ‘aggressive’ and ‘throw things’ at him or her. We are then advised to ‘call law enforcement’ and wait for their arrival (presumably, while more innocent victims are slaughtered)."

‘Do We Want To Become A Socialist Country?’ Sen. Coburn Predicts Full Repeal In Senate
“When 60 percent of America, and the middle voters, and the independents, and moderates (over 50 percent of them) are absolutely against this bill, they’re going to come out and vote. And they’re going to vote against the people that rammed this thing through, regardless of what the Supreme Court said,” he added.

Five Reasons Why the Obamacare Decision Might Not Be As Bad As You Think
The fact that Obamacare‘s mandate has been arguably rewritten as a simple tax provision actually means something very positive at the political level for those who don’t want excessive government overreach to get carte blanche. Prior to this case, regulation of industries or people was always justified under the framework of interstate commerce (we’ll revisit this later). Now, however, taxation has been given a power that most liberals could not have imagined in their wildest dreams. On the surface, this looks like a bad thing. Actually, it could be quite the opposite.

Stop the madness! The truth about Obama and our national debt'

Social Security Disability Seen Insolvent Unless Congress Votes
Part of the reason for the burgeoning costs is that the 77 million baby boomers projected to swamp federal retirement plans will reach the disability program first. That’s because almost all boomers are at least 50 years old, the age at which someone is most likely to become disabled.

Homeland Security suspends immigration agreements with Arizona police
The Obama administration said Monday it is suspending existing agreements with Arizona police over enforcement of federal immigration laws, and said it has issued a directive telling federal authorities to decline many of the calls reporting illegal immigrants that the Homeland Security Department may get from Arizona police.

White House Readies Ramming Speed if Supremes Strike Down Mandate
A Democratic “congressional official” talking to the Associated Press about plans in the Obama administration to proceed with the president’s 2010 health law even if the Supreme Court strikes down its central provision requiring all Americans to either purchase insurance or be enrolled in a government program.

Networks Silent As Obama Avoids Major Environmental Conference; ABC Attacked Bush 10 Years Earlier
Here’s more proof that the media cynically use the environment as a hammer to whack Republicans: the non-existent response of ABC and muted comment by The New York Times about Obama’s refusal to attend a major environmental conference, contrasted with their fury 10 years earlier over a similar decision by President George W. Bush.

The godfather of global warming lowers the boom on climate change hysteria
Lovelock still believes anthropogenic global warming is occurring and that mankind must lower its greenhouse gas emissions, but says it’s now clear the doomsday predictions, including his own (and Al Gore’s) were incorrect.

U.S. family jailed for Holder's gun crimes
The rationale for denying the Reeses’ constitutional rights is that Rick knows some people in Mexico, his home has a well and solar power and there were guns and ammunition in their homes and businesses when they were arrested. That’s right: Guns and ammo in the home and business of a federally licensed firearms dealer (all of which were seized a year ago and have never been returned) is being offered as evidence that they can’t be trusted – and a judge bought it.

Desperation: Obama Surrogate Calls to Make Voting Mandatory
Democrats seem fine with forcing people to the polls, but object strenuously to people showing ID at the polls when they show up voluntarily. Forcing people to vote seems significantly more burdensome than asking them to show identification. But one measure prevents voter fraud, while one promotes liberal constituencies stuffing the ballot box.

Coal State Senator Sherrod Brown Joins Obama's 'War on Coal'
Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown has joined Obama in the trenches to destroy coal jobs and cheap energy for Ohioans, who get 86% of their electricity from coal. One of Obama's new regulations abuses executive power and is called Utility Maximum Achievable Control Technology, or Utility MACT. It would make the building of new coal plants an impossibility and cost existing plants tens of billions of dollars to retrofit their systems. Many will choose to just close down like six of FirstEnergy's plants. And, just like Obama predicted, and desires, MACT will cause electricity rates to necessarily skyrocket.

Sens. Rand Paul and John Cornyn Introduce Bill to Limit Power of Government to Seize Private Property
The bill argues that the “protection of homes, small businesses and other private property rights against government seizures and other unreasonable government interference is a fundamental principal and core commitment of our Nation’s founders.” It also cites the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states eminent domain may only be used for only for “public use.”

Getting into a barroom fight with the men who guard Vice President Joe Biden would likely get someone locked up -- unless the brawlers also happen to be on the very same security team.

Moody's downgrades 15 of the world's biggest banks
Lower ratings can lead to higher costs for borrowing and collateral. The downgrades leave Citigroup Inc. (C) and Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bank of America Corp. (BAC) as the lowest-rated banks among the 15 at Baa2, two levels above junk.

Retiring Dem: 'The People Have Gotten Dumber'...
It used to be you had real friends on the other side of the aisle. It’s not like that anymore. Society has changed. The public is to blame as well. I think the people have gotten dumber.

Supreme Court Smacks Down SEIU
The Supreme Court says a union must give nonmembers an immediate chance to object to unexpected fee increases that all workers are required to pay in closed-shop situations. The court on Thursday ruled for Dianne Knox and other nonmembers of the Service Employees International Union's Local 1000.

ICE Agent’s Family Slaps Holder With Wrongful Death Suit
The family of ICE Special Agent Jaime Zapata has filed a claim for wrongful death against the Justice Dept. and other federal agencies. Zapata was gunned down by suspected drug cartel members in Mexico in Feb. 2011 with weapons later linked to an ATF case in the Texas area. Joining the claim is Zapata's surviving partner in the attack: Victor Avila.

Obama’s Executive Privilege Has Stench Of Cover-Up
Obama's contempt for the rule of law hit a new low when, on the eve of a vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, he granted his AG's 11th-hour request to hide sought-after documents on Operation Fast and Furious under the cover of executive privilege.

CBS: Holder's DOJ Used 'Fast and Furious' to Justify New 2nd Amendment Crackdown
ATF officials didn't intend to publicly disclose their own role in letting Mexican cartels obtain the weapons, but emails show they discussed using the sales, including sales encouraged by ATF, to justify a new gun regulation called "Demand Letter 3". That would require some U.S. gun shops to report the sale of multiple rifles or "long guns."

The change in policy could allow as many as 800,000 immigrants who came to the United States illegally not only to remain in the country without fear of being deported, but to work legally.

Obama Tells Celebrities They're the 'Ultimate Arbiter' of America's Direction
Does Middle America really want their country run by celebrities, a kitchen cabinet of divas and Clooneys and Snookis? Obama soaked in the support — and the campaign cash — of Manhattan's elite entertainers Thursday as his re-election team sought to fill its fundraising coffers," Feller wrote. "Speaking in a dimly lighted, art-filled room, Obama told supporters they would play a critical role in an election that would determine a vision for the nation's future.’

ID Required At Obama Speech But Not To Vote
Obama's presidential campaign checked the identification of the supporters attending Obama's "framing" event at Cuyahoga Community College today. The 1,500 supporters in attendance picked up tickets at campaign offices in Northeast Ohio beginning on Monday, though tickets to the event made no mention of an ID requirement.

Taxpayers Foot Bill For Obama Celebrity Fundraisers
This is how Obama saves money for his campaign and makes taxpayers foot the heavy part of the bill. He schedules an ‘official visit’ to the World Trade Center on the same day he’s going to multiple fundraisers in Manhattan.

Scientists Push Back Against “Assaults on Sugar”
The scientific community lashed out against "sugar is toxic" sensationalism on Sunday, identifying it as a distraction from more meaningful areas of research and debate on the causes of obesity and disease.

Obama Treats Military Vets To Lunch…Then Leaves Without Paying the Bill
Barack Obama isn’t necessarily known for being fiscally responsible, but it seems he may be a bit oblivious when it comes to personal finances as well as national. The bill for the president and his four guests was $55.58, but was left unpaid at the point of sale, according to pool reports.

‘We Are Going to Continue Enforcing Illegal Immigration Laws’: Sheriff Joe Arpaio Responds to Obama’s New Immigration Policy
Arpaio said that unless Obama’s new policy is enacted into law, he and his department will not enforce it. “Well, we’re still going to enforce all those illegal immigration laws,” he added. “If this is not a law, we will not enforce it.” Arpaio went on to say that the new policy is purely a political move by Obama during an election year.

Eric Holder Buckles Under Threat of Contempt Charges, Agrees to Provide More ‘Fast and Furious’ Documents
In a letter to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Holder said he would turn over briefings and documents – based on internal U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) communications – to congressional investigators that had previously been withheld.

Sen. Paul proposes bill protecting Americans from drone surveillance
"Like other tools used to collect information in law enforcement, in order to use drones a warrant needs to be issued," Paul said Tuesday. "Americans going about their everyday lives should not be treated like criminals or terrorists and have their rights infringed upon by military tactics."

Is Legalizing Weed Obama's Secret Weapon?
In 2004 George W. Bush's re-election campaign worked to put anti-gay marriage ballot initiatives up for vote in several swing states in order to turn out more hard-core conservatives to the polls. This year the question is whether marijuana legalization measures will turn out young voters for Obama.

Holder Appoints Obama Donor To Investigate White House Leaks
Attorney General Eric Holder has appointed two U.S. attorneys to lead investigations into the possible leaking of state secrets. One of those attorneys, Ronald C. Machen, owes his current job to the fact that Obama appointed him to it. He has also donated $4,350 to Obama’s campaigns over the years.

Teacher Uses Federal Funds to Dine at Hooters
The problem is that the $32,000 came from a $4.4 million federal fund dedicated to improving two low-achieving schools within the Waterloo district. The Des Moines school district also received aid from the fund.

‘Backdoor Kyoto Protocol’: Sen. DeMint Warns of Hidden Threat to American Sovereignty
The U.S. would be forced to obey U.N. standards on air pollution and carbon emissions. In fact, the treaty even allows foreign nations to sue the U.S. if it doesn’t adhere to LOST guidelines. “LOST dictates that disputes, environmental or otherwise, be settled by a five- member arbitration panel,” Sen. DeMint writes.

U.S. expands secret intelligence operations in Africa
The surveillance underscores how Special Operations forces, which have played an outsize role in the Obama administration’s national security strategy, are working clandestinely all over the globe, not just in war zones.

Obama's Green Jobs: What's In A Name?
Do you know what the Obama Administration considers a "green job"? Do you know what "green jobs" even means? We asked Obama's top Dept of Labor statistician. See the full Oversight Committee hearing here:

Obama's 'Truth Team' Tells Lie
The specific section that the “Truth Team” says was blocked by Republicans at “every turn” was introduced by Senator Blumenthal (D-CT) and referred to committee. It’s still there. I’ll remind the “Truth Team” that Democrats control the committees in the Senate, not Republicans. Therein lies the second lie. It’s impossible for Republicans to block something at “every turn” when Democrats haven’t even let it out of committee.

Connecticut: $300,000 To Renovate Communist Party HQ
Despite massive debt and high unemployment, the state government of Connecticut will be giving Fishman's group, Progressive Education and Research Associates, three hundred thousand dollars in hard-earned tax payer dollars for building renovations. Progressive Education and Research Associates just happens to share headquarters with the Connecticut Communist Party. Connecticut's government isn't broken, it's actively working against the Nutmeg State's working population.

Holder Orders Florida to Stop Removing Ineligible Voters

Obama Gets Left Behind
Everyday I get emails from former members of Move On, a pro-Democratic Party group that was famously active during the build-up to the Iraq War in 2003. They’re complaining about one man: President Obama.
